Every week, I open a new Basket. I call it the Brag Basket, but it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. I started this so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.
The basket is open all weekend, from May 14-16, 2010.
Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.
How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.
This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

Hiya Becky,
As you know, I’ve been working on a video project for my local CVB in Round Rock, TX. Although I’ve done plenty of basic videos for my travel blogs, this was another level in terms of my technical knowledge and equipment.
There were a lot of hours spent struggling with the unfamiliar and feeling like a dope, but thanks to many helpful friends with video expertise, plus my own bullheadedness, we posted the first three videos last night.
I’m kinda proud of that. :) Y’all come by and say hi!

This actually happened last Friday: I had a meetup with freelance WordPress webbuilders and freelance organisers. It was a good meeting and I will need to write a summary of the meeting to get my new business really started. It is getting more important since more requests for advice and presentations are coming in.
Also I have used story telling in my post and newsletter earlier this week (Dutch) with great responses. In the presentation Wednesday it also worked, everyone was listening the whole presentation.
The newsletter was about that people still feel that relationships via the internet (social networking) are not real. Like connecting with other people on LinkedIn only if you have their biz card or have met them in person. Nonsense.
Completed Steve Farber’s book Radical Leap – what a great book! Made me think of the GTY project and a different way of writing, hence the newsletter and presentation change. It is about the story. All learnings from SOBCon!
How do you like the idea of Justin McCullough and his Twitter eBook? See http://leader4hire.net/twitter-ebook-project/
Sheila, I’m so proud of all you’ve learned through this project: about video and about business.
Erno, wow! You’ve put what you learned straight into action. Excellent! And thanks for promoting Justin’s eBook project. I think it will be a great success.
Nice Sheila! Must have been a lot of work.
Hi Becky.
I’ve been tweaking the way I do editorial calendars for clients. I started off with a pretty rigid system that lead to a lot of language and content.
The first few ended up feeling forced and stilted, and I’ve had that idea hammered home by one of the first calendars that I did being totally neglected.
But the one I did yesterday, I let my clients lead. I acted mainly as whiteboard scribe, and at the end of a 3 hour session, we’ve got a year’s worth of subjects planned out on the calendar.
They’re invested, because they drove the ideas. I’m happy, because I was a successful guide. And if that’s not a good note to end a work week on, I don’t know what is!
@Erno thx for the link to Justin. Haven’t connected w him since SOBCon, looks like a cool project.
@Sheila Way to work outside the comfort zone!
( * Cheers and jumps around with friends in the basket. Is this thing weight-tested? :) * )
Ben, congratulations on a terrific customer-centered approach!
Speaking of Steve Farber, Liz Strauss nominated him for the Brag Basket for his just-announced success in education. I’ll get that link for you when I get back to the office this afternoon.
Yes, saw Steve’s tweet on that earlier this (my) morning The 1st (Extreme Leadership) Toe in the Water of Education
Thank you, Erno. I knew someone would come through with that link. Congratulations to Steve!
@Sheila – Becky’s got this thing reverse-balanced. The more we put in it, the lighter it gets. We’ll be taking flight soon! Nice work on stretching your skills and tackling that project! It’s always a great feeling to push your limits and try something new (especially when it succeeds!)
@Erno – I love that you listened to the folks in your meeting, took their expertise and experience to heart, and are acting on it! Way to take advantage of the talent surrounding you – good luck with your new venture!
@Ben – Great idea to get your client invested in the process! I find the reverse is true as well: I’m the “client” for several freelancers, and they always seem to appreciate it when I recognize their area of expertise and let them guide me. Seems like you’ve found a great balance!
Our friend from the 140Conferences Jeff Hayzlett has a great business book, The Mirror Test. (more here: http://hayzlett.com/) This week it made TheDailyBeast-This Week’s Hot Reads list, is #261 today on Amazon and is #9 on “Mover &Shaker” List! Congratulations, Jeff!
Oklahoma is often thought of as being a non-tech place. I already knew better, but this past week, I started searching out blogs by Oklahomans and found some wonderful and informative people with blogs on a number of interesting topics. Hopefully, I can make it to one of the “Get Social” events soon so I can meet some of you in person. :)
Oh wow.. just checked out Steve Farber’s and Justin’s links and I feel like I am entering a whole new world of Internet friends. I have read the blogs of several top Internet marketing/social marketing bloggers for a long time now and I just felt that they were becoming very commercial in almost every blog post recently. It is like there is no “meat” there and I was left just scratching my head and going “huh?” Thank you for the links and I can’t wait to get Steve’s book and partake of all of the other information mentioned as well. :) I have been reading a book called “Online Marketing Heroes” this week. Sorry.. just could not resist another comment after looking over those links. :)
Joan, glad you’re connecting with a new segment of the world!
Thanks Becky! I worked with one company about 1.5 years ago (I won’t mention the name of the company, but suffice it to say the owner does speak at major Internet related conferences) and at times I felt that as a 40 something, not exactly thin as I was in my youth, female… I did not quite “fit in” with the young 20-30 something Internet crowd. I mean if I ever get to attend a conference, I will actually be there to hear the speakers and not to party… LOL Not to say that I don’t enjoy a great martini, margarita or glass of wine as much as the next person… but it just won’t be my main focus. :D
