Social Media Day Brag Basket

By Small Biz Survival

The Brag Basket is our tradition of sharing. The basket is always free and open all weekend, this one June 29 – July 1, 2012. Have some good news this week? Put it in the Brag Basket.

Saturday is Social Media Day, and I’ll be joining the Wichita Social Media Club for their fun.

Don’t hold back because of that word, “brag.” When you hold back, you hide your good news and accomplishments that might inspire others. Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing.

For Social Media Day Saturday, I borrowed this
basket from our friend Keri Jaehnig.

What can you do in the Brag Basket?

  • introduce yourself
  • share some great news from this week
  • congratulate a friend
  • laugh about something wonderful that you tried that failed
  • applaud for each other

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post. We all cheer, and everyone feels great.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

I’m so happy to announce that the City of Tulsa has proclaimed June 30th Social Media Day in Tulsa. Social Media Tulsa will celebrate our third social media day. It’s going to be a blast!

Oh, I forgot to say Brag. :) I submitted the request for proclamation in April. The big grin on my face in the photo shows how proud I am.

I have to brag on Molly Lehmann, my friend of 20+ years and a teacher in Chicago. She joined Twitter this past week as part of a summer training course for teachers at her school and I know she will get a lot out of it!

I’ll refrain from telling her “I told you so” when she starts telling me all the wonderful things she has learned or connections she has made. Ha!

Carly, let’s all give Molly a big welcome! Remind her to follow smart people, like educators @angelamaiers, @kevinhoneycutt and @cfanch.

And I should brag that Cody Heitschmidt invited me to join him for his first ever radio broadcast. It was totally worth getting up before 6 for! :)

My son received a check from a client who paid him his full rate for design and CAD work for a project they hope to get with the NFL for the next Super Bowl. Now, I say, “received a check” because anyone can get a contract, but unfortunately nowadays, not everyone gets PAID for the work they do, if the client thinks they can get a way with stiffing them. I am happy to say that this client was true to their word and paid straight away. So, I guess I’m bragging on them as well as my son. :)

Secondly, today, on one of the hottest, most humid days of the summer, I shot a 79 to equal my personal best score at golf. So there! :)

I am excited to brag that the Jewett Area Chamber of Commerce had Sheila Scarborough out for a workshop this week. Since then I have joined twitter and will be posting all about our community events, local businesses and tourist attractions.

Kristy, Sheila has been bragging about you all week. Congrats on all you learned!
