Don’t like to brag? Just share some good news for yourself or a friend.
Just don’t make it an ad. I delete the ads that people stick in here. If you talk more about the people involved than the things, you’ll be fine.
It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

Hello,
My name is Rhonda Howell and my husband Walter Howell is a very talented Artisan Blacksmith. We work together producing custom forged Architectural Hardware and Sculpture. Over the past 15 years our work slowly evolved from a past time to a full time endeavor that has become both a joy and means of support. We work to not only produce product but also teach classes and educate the public on the benefits of doing business with local artisans. While Walter has received some awards and recognition that we are very proud of we find ourselves still struggling with how to make it as a small business and ways to use high tech opportunities to market and advance our “low tech” process and product.
I was very excited to find the small Biz Survival site and hope to learn from the experience and feed back from other small business owners. Much of the help we find is for businesses of 50 or so. We are looking for “Mom and Pop” operations like ourselves that are searching for ways to promote and market with a very low budget and try to compete in an ever changing market. Often Big Box principles just don’t benefit us. We are always looking for opportunities to co-op with other artists and eager to learn and share what we have all learned. Usually the hard way!
We are currently developing an online art site and show that we hope will help us and others in our situation have a competitive online presence that will actually result in sales for folks who are making things by hand. We would love for any one with advice, suggestions or ideas to feel free to put in their two cents worth. Hopefully at some point soon we can open up this opportunity to others. We believe in the strength in numbers theory especially when the numbers include people and products of quality and character.
Thank you to Becky and staff for putting up the first site I have found that seems to truly understand the main street business community and offer information that is relevant to our situation.
Looking forward to learning a lot! Rhonda Howell

Our community has joined forces with 5 other communities to form “6 Communities – 1 Route” as we compete for up to $3,000,000 in grant money for economic development in the region. The first round of applications were just submitted for the Frontier Communication & DISH “America’s Best Communities” grant. You can follow our progress on Facebook. Wish us luck!
