Spice up your day with a warm brag in the Brag Basket

Welcome to the Brag Basket, our tradition of sharing. The basket is always free and open all weekend, this one December 13-15, 2013. What good news will you add to the brag basket?

Don’t hold back because of that word, “brag.” When you hold back, you hide your good news and accomplishments that might inspire others. Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing.

What can you do in the Brag Basket?

  • introduce yourself
  • share some great news from this week
  • congratulate a friend
  • laugh about something wonderful that you tried that failed
  • applaud for each other

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post. We all cheer, and everyone feels great.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) If you talk more about the people involved than the things, you’ll be fine.

It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

For months I have read about this “brag basket” thing….but for the life of me….I couldn’t figure out how exactly I was supposed to go about “contributing”. So, today I just decided to try posting in the comments….and if that is not where the “brags” go….then hopefully someone will point me in the right direction.

Anyway, here is our “Brag”. October 2014 will mark twenty years….since a groundbreaking ceremony was held…to start the process of moving our entire community, up out of a flood plain, after our town was almost totally destroyed by the floods of 1993.

It will also mark what would have been the 110th birthday of Hollywood Western Movie Actor “Wild Bill Elliott”…..who was born and raised in our town.

To help commemorate both of these events…..a “Make it Happen” committee was formed….to brainstorm ways we could celebrate these events….and what we need to do, to “Make it Happen”!

Although there are still many ideas flying around…that may or may not make the final cut. The amount of “enthusiasm” that this committee has generated…is proving to be HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS! People within the community are now seeing our community through the eyes of a “tourist” instead of as a lifelong resident….and this new perspective has everyone looking at ways that we can improve that view.

Even though we are a very small rural town of only 385 people….we have literally been through “hell and high water” together…..and hopefully the two week long celebration we are planning for next October….will serve to show that there is still a LOT of “Life” still left in our town!
