Every once in a while, someone will tell me, “I could never brag.” Well, let me tell you something; you can brag here. I call this the Brag Basket, but it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. I started this so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.
The basket is open all weekend, from May 21-23, 2010.
Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.
How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.
This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

Hey, thanks, Becky, for opening up the brag basket. Cool idea, a little humble way to say hey, or thanks, or look at me (!)
I want to brag on my friend Doug Arbogast, a certified and self-admitted tree hugger and damn good guy who helps tourism-based businesses be a little greener. Doug’s consulting company, Travel Green Appalachia, has entered the SocMed world. Congrats, Doug!
Doug is now officially @dougarbogast and can be found blogging a couple of times a week. (full disclosure: We did an extended training session with Doug a few months ago. His wife sat in for a few sessions, too.)
Anyway, Doug is as genuine as it gets. I’m looking forward to the experience and perspective he’ll be bringing to the tourism conversation. I encourage everyone stop by and say hi to him!
Becky McCray says
Ben, thanks for sharing. And we add our congratulations to yours: congrats, Doug!

thanks Ben and Becky. I want to return the brag and say thanks to Ben and his business partner Pat Strader at Matterhorn Marketing for giving my wife and I the tips and guidance we needed to break into the social media sphere.
The training we received from them was invaluable for us to learn how apply our knowledge of green travel in Appalachia in a relevant and meaningful way across various social media platforms.
I’d invite anyone looking for social media tips (especially if you’re in the tourism industry) to say hey to @bencurnett and @matterhornpat. I think you’ll find them both to be as genuine and personable as it gets.
Becky McCray says
Doug, welcome! Glad to have you in the Brag Basket, and glad to have you sharing your perspective online.

The Clyde,Ks Beautification committee is launching a new project to yet again improve our beautiful downtown. This time we’re working on putting new (old fashion) street lights on the main business district. These gals know how to make a community come together for a cause. Last project was a hugh success and the whole town seemed to join in, here’s hoping this one does the same.

I want to brag about Deb Brown over at DebWorks.com. Like you, Becky, she has made it her mission to help the small business owner grow his or her business through the marketing power of social media. She is relentless about bringing together social media experts in her network to create valuable resources for small business. Kudos to Deb!
Becky McCray says
Johnita, a big round of applause to your Beautification committee! I’m sure the community will join in.
Mary-Lynn, I have to agree. A standing ovation is in order for Deb!

Taking three kids camping today with the Cub Scouts. With luck I’ll come back next week to brag that I survived.
Becky McCray says
Good luck, Mike, and good for you!

I wanted to brag a little about a conference I attended in Omaha, Nebraska called Big Omaha. This is the second year it has existed. This year I got to meet several interesting people including Matt Mullenweg, “the WordPress guy”. Very inspirational to see what the organizers were able to accomplish here in the Midwest. The quality was ridiculously good both years (affordable, great location, top notch speakers). Plus, and this is a real bonus: their logo features a Hereford as the prominent piece! They do twitter: @bigomaha
Becky McCray says
Shannon, congratulations! Big Omaha is an outstanding event. Glad to have them raising the profile of “alternative” locations. :)
Deb Brown says

I’m going to brag about my new book #TwitterWorks, and shout out a big thanks to Becky for her endorsement, and to my awesome co-authors Joe Sorge (@ajbombers) and Scott Baitinger (@streetzapizza). Without friends like the 3 I mentioned, life would be far more empty. Thanks to them, life is a rockin’ good time!
Big props!
Becky McCray says
Phil, congratulations on the new book! You’ve worked with some great co-authors, and created something great.

I want to brag about my business partner and Chief Reality Officer, George Harb (@georgeharb). He keeps me focused and is the reason we can now offer blog design services. He has taught me a lot about being a small business as well.
Becky McCray says
Anita, A big round of applause for George! Here’s to many more years of success together.
