Brag Basket full of your good news

By Small Biz Survival

brag basketEach Friday, I open the brag basket as a fun place to give someone a pat on the back, brag, or promote yourself and your projects.

Tony Katz explained why this matters:

It’s ok to have success, it’s ok to have great things happen in your life and it is ok to talk about those things. Embrace the good things that happen and the work that it took to get the good things to happen. Then, focus on more good things, and make them happen. The vision is only achieved through the action.

Last time, Rick bragged, as requested! Then Vanessa and Ari and David dropped in because Chris sent them. Congrats to you all, and hope you’ll be back this week and on and on. :)

Will you put something in the Brag Basket this week? You can brag on a friend, your own project, yourself, others, anything! You don’t need special permission or anything. Just leave a comment right here. There’s no deadline, so you can brag anytime during the weekend, and I’ll open a fresh Brag Basket each Friday.

Me first! Hugh Forrest of SXSW called my panel idea “Cool cool cool — I hope the Panel Picker voters and the Advisory Board like this idea as much as I do.” Woohoo! I’ll be letting you know when the voting opens…. :)

Me second. After our former web host went kaput (with no warning, of course) last week, by Monday this week I was able to get our site back up. Then, yesterday I thought I was going to have to completely rewrite our order form code, but I found a way to plug in the mail server value using our existing form templates and it works…which means by Monday we should be able to transition from the stone age (read: phone order) to secure online forms. I haven’t been this stoked about coding in a while!

Congrats on the recognition, Becky! Also, I see you now have more intuitive commenting. Way to go!

Almost as a hobby or joke we launched a little community discussion website for our hometown.

Never thought it could amount to much.

60 days later – almost 40,000 page views a month with zero spent on marketing. Buyout offer received this week from media company that owns 9 small to medium newspapers. Not a retire now buyout… but pretty decent numbers being discussed.

Forbes.com contacted me about syndicating my blog http://EnergizedAccounting.blogspot.com. Of course I said yes! This week I found out that they had asked hundreds of business bloggers and have just lumped all the syndications in one long ticker tape on their web site. I realized that I would get very little traffic this way because of my narrow focus and small volume, so I pitched them on separating the blogs by subject (which I think is good for the users anyway). The editor sent me an email last night setting up a call. *Whew*

I have the honor of working with Jennifer Navarrete, epodcaster on Twitter, as a co-founder for Social Media Club in San Antonio.

We are going to work hard to bring some of the spot light on what this great city is doing, and how it will make an major impact in our community. I truly look forward to this amazing experience and seeing the group learn and grow. We are planning to launch in the fall.

I am really proud that I am increasingly using my blog to raise awareness about shelter dogs. Particularly pitbulls.

And this week, in the real world, hearing the following from the producer of the theater festival my play’s gonna be in: “You tell a complete story in seven minutes! Other writers are jealous!”

I launched http://www.4-am.net yesterday, the website for our a cappella quartet as a blog and incorporating new media. We’ve only started this group after singing together professionally for about 15 years and I’m really hoping to get some good traction with the site. Thank you for the opportunity to brag, Becky.

    Becky –

Looks like you have brag basket that is full to the top. Here is one more. My little outfit, financed it’s first construction company.

Construction? Is Marco nuts? Hasn’t he read the news?

Yes and Yes. Bu the deal is not nuts. There is a lot of value in that sector right now since more people are running away. The client is happy too – they needed the funds to meet payroll.

    Cheers,
    Marco

Marco, always room for another brag! Construction is a terrific industry, with lots of geographic areas in a full construction boom! I love hearing how one small business’s service helps another small business succeed. Congrats on adding a new industry to your list of happy clients.
