Your good news can inspire others

By Small Biz Survival

One of our traditions at Small Biz Survival is the Brag Basket. The basket is always free and open all weekend, this one from April 22-24, 2011.

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. It’s here so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend. Don’t hold back because of that word, “brag.” When you hold back, you hide your good news and accomplishments that might inspire others.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

I’m bragging that Greener Grass Media is in full swing.

And my to-do list is long… one of those things is an assignment from a good friend of mine, that I will get to next week!

Here’s some good news about television in Oklahoma. I got this note via e-mail from Lyn Hester who is the host of TV 52’s “Oklahoma Live” She asked me to share it, so here it is:
“Thank you for being on Oklahoma Live and supporting our mission to promote Oklahoma talent, events and businesses.
I would like to ask for a favor. Would you please tell your friends and colleagues what we are doing? With more people watching we will be able to continue to provide a forum for Oklahoma musicians, artists, authors, businesses and organizations.
I post clips from each show on the Oklahoma Live Facebook page and the KSBITV.com website. if you want to take those and link them to your page or website that would be stupendous.
Periodically I will let you know what we are doing – for instance we will be live at the Oklahoma Arts Festival on April 29th and we will be having a concert at Frontier City on June 3rd (more to come on that).
Thank you so much for your assistance and belief in this new adventure.”

I might have mentioned this before, but Woodbine, Iowa is a town about the same size as Dunlap, Iowa where I live. They are a neighbor to us, just about ten miles away, and share lots of our problems and lots of our opportunities. My former boss lives there and has become instrumental in the city’s betterment efforts. A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit him and he gave me a tour tour of all of his urban improvement efforts. Recently they have begun a facade improvement program for their downtown, as well as some total refurbishment projects designed to improve the business district and provide more and improved housing above the businesses. If you are interested in Highway 30 (“The Lincoln Highway”) history, or if you like neat architecture and neat people, you should come pay Woodbine a visit – they are really on the move! I have been really impressed with (an maybe a little jealous of) all the progress and I believe that they have lots of grist for the tourism mill.

Shannon, it’s perfectly fine to mention them more than once. Congratulations to the whole team of Woodbine, Iowa!
