The Brag Basket is tax free

By Small Biz Survival

One of our traditions at Small Biz Survival is the Brag Basket. The basket is always free and open all weekend, this one from April 15-17, 2011.

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. It’s here so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend. Don’t hold back because of that word, “brag.” When you hold back, you hide your good news and accomplishments that might inspire others.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

Bragging on my wife this week. She’s kickstarting me on a eating healthier. We’re using the points plus system from Weight Watchers. Wish me luck.

Good luck, Todd! With Nanna J’s example, I hope you will succeed.

We installed a new hot/cold vacuum press in our picture frame shop this week. It allows us to dry-mount or laminate items as large as 36″ x 48″ (posters, prints, photographs, signs, etc.). Next week we will be getting a new top-line computerized mat cutter from the WIZARD company, a model 9000 (with all manner of “bells and whistles” for cutting and decorating mats).

Congratulations, Rod! Everyone loves getting new business toys! (even when they mean more work)

    Hi Becky,
You are on the cutting edge of technology. I was surprised to click on Small Biz Survival in my inbox and find my name at the start and end of your letter about Keeping Up with Social Media with Nutshell Mail. While I have received snail mail with my name in the letter (including one from President Obama) yours is the first I have received online.

As a personal blogger I had another surprise yesterday. My blog’s stats indicated that I had had a visit that originated from the Spring 2011 issue of The Park University Magazine where my blog was mentioned.

Park University has changed significantly since I attended what was then Park College from 1961 to 1965. The town of Parkville, which in those days looked like a typical Midwestern small town, today is a vibrant suburb of Kansas City, MO. The websites are http://www.park.edu and http://www.parkvillemo.com.

Barbara, I won’t call it cutting edge, because it has been available for a long while. Not many people use it, though. I’m glad you noticed! And congratulations to you on being mentioned in your alma mater’s magazine. Even as things change, it’s good to be recognized.

Thanks for the Brag Basket Becky! It gives me a chance to relax into hearing what others are considering their accomplishments and share in their joy-As you said in your response to Barbara, “It’s good to be recognized.” And as for anyone starting on a weight loss program – Wow! – my hat’s off to Todd and his wife. Hope they ENJOY that process!
As for me, I find that I am grateful to grow in the understanding that we are here on PlanetHome to enjoy, to communicate, to take each other into consideration, to learn, and to share. It’s pretty good being alive, and being in Oklahoma City (&, for me, Downtown to boot) great.

I just wanted to say something nice about Mapleton, Iowa, the town hit by the EF3 tornado a week ago. There are many family and friends there and I was awestruck by the devastation when I visited the day after the storm. I visited again yesterday and am still moved beyond words by all the loss that is evident, but I am so grateful that no one was seriously injured or killed and I am absolutely humbled by the spirit of those who have lost everything they own. I don’t know that I could exhibit such grace. God bless them all.

Shannon, thanks for reminding us of this. We’ll be thinking of the people of Mapleton.
