I’m Clark Hoskin, Manager of Tourism and Economic Development in Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. We want to brag in a big way this time about the new SSUP Student Start Up program that our new employee Jerry Sucharyna has brought to us from British Columbia.
We have raised over $6,000 from local established businesses which will be available to young entrepreneurs in Grades 6 to 12 who want to start a summer business. Students can apply for $200 to help them start a business. They will have the chance to receive mentorship from some of our older entrepreneurs. If they submit a final report at the end of the summer, whatever the outcome ofc their business, they can receive an extra $100.
We are SO happy that our businesses are stepping up with donations as high as $1,500 each, which could kickstart 5 student businesses.
Our local newspaper did a fine job explaining the program after we launched it at Norfolk County Council a few days ago. Link: http://www.simcoereformer.ca/2016/05/05/free-cash-for-young-entrepreneurs
Thank you for this opportunity to share!
I love this project! I hope lots of places start supporting student startups. Thanks for sharing, Clark!
