Never say never about the Brag Basket

By Small Biz Survival

Every once in a while, someone will tell me, “I could never brag.” Well, it’s time to make an exception. I give you permission.

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. I started this so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.

The basket is open all weekend, from June 11 – 13, 2010.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

49 years of suffering ended for The Chicago Blackhawk when we won the Stanley Grant!

There’s a Stanley Grant? How cool that would be!

Okay – fundraiser everyone can participate in for the Old Stone House http://www.oldstonehouse.org. Buy ice cream, and a percentage of the sales goes to the fundraiser!

Also, am teaching a series of social media classes at North Iowa Community college in September!

Get that – volunteer 1, paid 1. Progress for me – not giving it ALL away for free!

Filed for re-ellection to the Cloud County 1st District County Commissioner seat. Love the job and hope I make a difference in peoples lives. Lots of work ahead and I’m up for the challenge. Cloud County Kansas is a great place to live, work, and play.People always welcome to come see what we have to offer, just visit or look around and staff for the rest of your life.

Happy moment for me this week. I reconnected with someone former a “former life.” In 1995 I was a school principal in Ocean Shores, Washington and she was a parent of a student.

She found me on LinkedIn with a, “Is this YOU?” message.

Even more interesting, though, is where we both are today—what we’ve become.

I own a marketing firm and she is now a branding specialist in the Seattle area. We are having lunch next week. I’m sure there will be laughter and reminiscing about the “school days.” But also a new bond with the work we both now do. So perhaps the “collaboration” will continue.

It’s just another example of the power of social media, not just in connecting people, but in reconnecting them. Very cool.

Barry, I’ll cheer with you! Hurray!

Deb, I’m so proud of all you accomplish, and doubly proud to see it earn you income, too.

Johnita, I only wish I could vote for you! Just did a search on Cloud County, and now I want to visit, too.

Judy, that is a terrific story. May it lead to interesting things for you both.

    Becky,

Nothing extra special for me to brag about this week.

Just wanted to say that you are one heck of cheerleader.

Jon, it absolutely is. But, you’ve left out something: Folks, Jon had the privilege of performing his son’s wedding ceremony. Congratulations, Jon. We are cheering for you and Nancy, and for Andrew and Allie!

I finished a book that meant something for the 1st time in a very long time.
    and
I’m going to Ethiopia in October.
    and
I connected with an organization that is providing us with LOTS of medical supplies to bring with us to Ethiopia.
    and
Im making time to focus on relationships and people who matter to me.
    and
I took family pictures today and I felt good about my approach with the 18 people who were there.
    I feel very braggy.
