The Brag Basket is our tradition of sharing. The basket is always free and open all weekend, this one Dec 14-16, 2012. Have some good news this week? Put it in the Brag Basket.

Don’t hold back because of that word, “brag.” When you hold back, you hide your good news and accomplishments that might inspire others. Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing.
What can you do in the Brag Basket?
- introduce yourself
- share some great news from this week
- congratulate a friend
- laugh about something wonderful that you tried that failed
- applaud for each other
Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.
How does it work? You write a comment on this post. We all cheer, and everyone feels great.
This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) If you talk more about the people involved than the things, you’ll be fine.
It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

I shopped locally for a present for my wife. A Twitter friend of mine down the road in Darien, CT makes really neat all hand-sewn products out of her house. My wife just got a shiny new iphone 5 for her birthday, so I asked Jen (who is @ittybittybag on Twitter) to make one of her unique mobile phone “cozy” wristlets embroidered with Barb’s monogram. Here is what she came up with: http://www.etsy.com/listing/118034370/iphone-5-wallet-case-cover-wristlet-mini? Jen does nice work!

Joe, good for you for shopping local merchants! And I love it when Twitter friends and local friends overlap.

Thought I’d try this brag basket since I love the idea. This week I talked myself into reading a piece of my writing at a spoken word art installment. The writing was part of the installment but then they hosted a night for the writers to read excerpts of their work. I was super nervous but sharing my writing and getting more involved in the writing community are two things I need to get better at. I achieved a little of both.

I featured one of your speakers from Small Town 2012, Nick Barron (http://www.hullfinancialplanning.com/an-interview-with-nick-barron-co-founder-of-flypt/). He then did what few entrepreneurs are able to do, which is exit gracefully when the startup isn’t working (http://www.hullfinancialplanning.com/sometimes-your-startup-fails-the-aftermath-of-flypt-and-nick-barron/). Nick will be back. He’s a good guy, driven, well-connected, and intentional.

Jason, Nick is one of my favorites. I was so glad he came to SmallTown. Thank you for featuring him, and for talking about what happens when it doesn’t all work the way you want.

On this day when the news is so heartbreaking and confusing, I’d like to brag about one organization that is doing amazing things: Wish Upon A Hero – http://wishuponahero.com/. Through this organization, we can all contribute – no matter how small – to help this crazy world a little better, one wish at a time.

Glenda, that is a wonderfully uplifting idea. Thank you for sharing it.
