What wonderful news will you choose to share? The basket is always free and open all weekend, from March 18-20, 2011.
Share your accomplishments This week’s basket photo by Dunbar Gardens |
Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. It’s here so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.
Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.
How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.
This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

Hi Becky. Great finally getting the chance to meet you at SXSW. I promised I’d stop by to say hi. I wanted to brag a bit for our team who threw down some serious hours leading up to SXSW for our latest launch and we were able to launch a new Bizzy feature called Check Outs. It’s an easy way to share with your friends what you think of the places you visit. We’re really excited to see it taking off. Thanks for the forum to share and great finally meeting you in person earlier this week!
Cheers,
Ryan

Ryan, you are true to your word. Congratulations to your whole team!

Hi Becky,
Well, I do feel like bragging once again, though it’s been a while.
I’ve been blogging for 3 1/2 years. My blog is well-respected, and well-liked by a lovely, loyal group. I get asked to do guest posts now and then, which is great fun, and I’m always telling myself “I ought to do more of this.” I’ve even written it down a few times…. “do some guest posting.”
Eek. So unspecific! I’d never let a client write down such a thing, ha ha!
So last week I got fed up with it and said “I need a jump start… and I need to *jump.* 1 hour a day, Self, of writing guest posts and sending them, as they’re done, to all the folks I know I’d love to write for. For 30 days. If it’s fabulous fun as I hope it is, I’ll keep it going (but cut back on the frequency!!).
I’ve gotten 11 posts done and 3 submitted so far. Just by doing what we all know we should do—keep it specific, timed, and measured.
And yeah, I feel like bragging.
:)
Hope you had fun at SXSW!
Regards,
Kelly

Hi Becky,
I had shoulder surgery last week and found out this week that I will have to be off of work(my real job) for three weeks. That depressed me, my job sort of defines me. Then, after an afternoon of doubt and frustration and kind words from friends, I realized I could use that time, and my iPad, to figure out how to promote my fundraising projects. I’m not a sales person, at all, so selling isn’t easy for me, but finding ways to promote has become a great learning experience and it’s keeping me busy!

I picked up a new client this month, landed a speaking gig for #140confDM, found a local inexpensive business networking group, and am helping with social media workshops at the local library.
Great to see everyone doing so many awesome things.

Becky, thank you for response to my comment in the March 11-13 Brag Basket. I am glad your presentation at SXSW went so well. I knew it would. On March 15 I participated in a webinar put on by Judy Dunn and Carol Tice. They gave me some reactions to my blog’s appearance. I took it from there and spent all day Friday and Saturday giving it an extreme makeover. I like the results.
In your blog you have large share buttons for Facebook, Twitter, email, Google and RSS. Where did you find that graphic? By the way, the town in the header of Small Biz Survival Guide reminds me of Washington, IA, the town I grew up near.
Becky McCray says
Joe, congratulations on all your many accomplishments! Proud to see you reach out.
Barbara, I do try to respond, even if it takes me a while. Congratulations on your redesign.
Our share buttons came from the Aquaticus Social set here: http://j.mp/4yP9GL. If you search for Social Media Icons, you’ll find lots of options. :)
And our current header photo is downtown Woodward, Oklahoma, one of my neighboring towns.

Hi Becky,
I wanted to be sure to stop by to brag about two Dunlap, Iowa businesses that celebrated together last week. Crossroads Liquor Store is a clean and attractive new business in our downtown area which just opened late this winter and had its grand opening last week. Simultaneously, a grand re-opening was held for Main Street Cakes and Gifts, a small boutique store which caters to anyone and everyone with a special event in their life. Main Street Cakes and Gifts suffered some damage to their suspended ceiling and when they investigated, they discovered a beautiful embossed tin ceiling above it. That has now been carefully restored and they are back in business! Together these two events brought crowds of people into our downtown area on a Friday night that otherwise would have been rather slow. Way to go!

Becky –
I am bragging about my discovery this week that absolutely every moment is absolutely awesome. There will never ever be another “dull moment” in my universe. If you just take the time to take everyone and everything you encounter at every moment into account, you are living in a rich universe of awesomeness. And when you add to that the fact that it is all also precious, then the very being here within the house of life is a big blessing.
The everyday courage that shines through in the accomplishment of people is an astonishment which should be sufficient to motivate each of us to be our very most energetic best.
The story from Dunlap Iowa via Shannon Ehlers -> “Main Street Cakes and Gifts, a small boutique store which caters to anyone and everyone with a special event in their life. Main Street Cakes and Gifts suffered some damage to their suspended ceiling and when they investigated, they discovered a beautiful embossed tin ceiling above it. That has now been carefully restored and they are back in business!” is better than any story you’re likely to find in “literature” – Well, I’ve gone on here…
Becky, thanks for this opportunity to celebrate.
Wayne

Wayne, always a pleasure! I have to agree that we a living in a rich universe of people, knowledge, and opportunity. Come back and celebrate, any time and every time.
