A wide open brag basket

By Small Biz Survival

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. I started this so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.

The basket is open all weekend, from November 5-7, 2010.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

I want to brag on you, Becky for being the driving force behind Small Town #140Conf this past Monday in Hutchinson, Kansas. What an awesome event!

You and I have been to plenty of conferences and we know what they are like. We see mostly the same speakers with the same information. The flavor of this conference was totally different and so refreshing. There were presentations, stories and lessons from local people in small businesses in small towns and even tiny towns in rural areas.

I thank you, Jeff Pulver, and your amazing team of organizers that made Monday in Hutchinson such a special day.

I’ll join the chorus braggin’ on Becky McCray for being considerate, thoughtful, and helpful in an extraordinarily outgoing way to those of us (me) who (once) were new to twitter and (now) are new to blogging. Such encouragement and support which I received from @BeckyMcCray got me going on a road more clear of obstacles (mostly in my own brainbox) & doing stuff – Like saying this windy thank you in this little box – a couple months back getting on to a comment box and following through to the final click (don’t fret, folks, this sentence is about to hit shore) would not have been possible. Rural America Rocks.

I agree with Jay and Wayne. Small Town 140Conf would have never happen if Becky hadn’t got Jeff interested. Then she worked hard to make it happen.

Hey, I don’t think I have posted here before but “spy” LOL on @BettyMcCray on Twitter (I am @edgegirl).

I’ve recently (mostly) recovered from some health challenges and am revamping my life and business.

This week I conducted an interview with a major personality in my field for new students in the beta animal career program I am beginning next week.

It has infused me with new energy and hope…and the students are thrilled since I also have a recognized name in the industry and so might be able to help them on the road to their dreams.

Came across this post via a Twitter RT. Sorry I don’t remember who. For me, I am very proud of stepping outside my comfort zone and repairing my own piano. An antique that I’ve been afraid of touching, even though I do want to learn piano repair. It’s a big deal to me as it’s tied up with a goal I’ve had on my back burner for a very long time. And I’m still riding the high from finally taking the dive! You can see photos and read the back story on my blog here: http://thedifferencebetweenaduck.wordpress.com/2010/11/03/i-fixed-it-my-piano-n-me/

    Thanks for the brag venue!

    Blessings,
    Julia

Jay, thank you. I’m glad this was not like your usual conference experience!

Wayne, you are a blessing in my life. I love the way you look at the world, and how you share your gifts with everyone.

Thank you, Miss Dazey. I’m so glad to have your support, always!

Ark Lady, great to have you step up and comment. Congratulations on your big interview!

Julia, I love your story. I love how you’ve restarted a long-dormant dream. Congrats!

I wanted to congratulate and wish all the best to a new business opening in my tiny tiny hometown of Soldier, Iowa later this month. Bloomy’s Boutique is a seller of gently used clothing and will be run by Cheri Bloomingdale, an entrepreneurial spirit who also grew up in Soldier. Cheri, congratulations and good luck! And thank you for eliminating the final vacancy on Main Street!

A lot has happened this week. One of the best things is my eight year old daughter started working on replacing me as the graphics designer for Wendy’s Party Treats. Emily made her first cake image design and her mom Wendy put it on the birthday cake. The customer was genuinely pleased with the result. Someday, and it won’t be long, I’ll be out of a job as the head graphics designer.

Got a brag on myself. Joined a group this November called Habit Builders. It’s a trial group by @ProNagger. Each member is working on building a habit during the month of November. She provides accountability and cheering sessions M-F.

As well, she has a private Facebook group for us to discuss, cheer, and share. Throughout the week she’s sharing insights and asking questions to spur us on.

Thanks for having the brag basket.

OK, this is my first share for the brag basket. I wrote my first blog post as a featured blogger on GovLoop and it got picked up on milblogging, the U.S. Army’s public website and Federal Computer Week. Made me feel really good.
