An independent brag basket

By Small Biz Survival

Feeling happily independent this weekend? Jump into the Brag Basket.

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. I started this so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.

The basket is open all weekend, from July 2-4, 2010.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

I’d like to brag on one of my doctors, Dr. Stanley Matthew. He’s an endocrinologist, and has been working with me on my low testosterone level. Over the past year the number has gone from below critical levels to back to normal. He’s had me on a gel routine that seems to be working well.

Cheers for digging in and getting to a therapy that works.

    Another brag is on me.
Underway Life is just over a week old and though in the baby stages for a blog, it already has a few consistent readers.

I’d love your support for Underway Life, a blog for and about sailors and their families, focused on their stories. http;//www.underwaylife.com

I would like to brag about our new Mrs. Oklahoma International 2010. With only three weeks to go before the National pageant, the woman who was crowned at the pageant in March decided to step down. I asked the first runner up if she would be interested in assuming the role, knowing that we would be moving a million miles an hour to get her ready to go. She said yes. She has been a dream to work with. She is friendly, gracious and beautiful but that’s not as important as the first two qualities. I am proud to have her representing the state of Oklahoma at the Mrs. International Pageant and I think you will be, too!

Dear Tojosan – congrats on your doctoring and your blog! :-)

Todd, great to have you in the Brag Basket again. Cheers to you, your doc, and your new blog!

Lauri, a round of applause for your gracious representative. Stepping up at the last minute is tough!

The thing I am bragging about is something I did two weeks ago (but then I went on vacation and didn’t really think about it). I enrolled in the Full Course over at Tourism Currents in the hopes of doing more for my teeny, tiny town in the way of social media for tourism. I paid for it myself, because it was something I had been wanting to do since I started this job, but I know money in the Town Office is really tight.

When I mentioned to a coworker that I had done it, she had me fill out paperwork that may result in me getting reimbursed for some of my costs – because there is supposed to be money in the budget for professional development. I don’t think I would have had the guts to ask for *any* reimbursement when I started this job – things in the office were just too tense.

Becky, this blog has started me thinking more about how best to promote my town, and I’m really looking forward to the course.

    Cheers!
    Erica

Kudos to our local Parks & Recreation Department, for our summertime farmer’s market and concerts at the Tuolumne Memorial Park. Every Wednesday, the place looks like something out of Norman Rockwell, complete with bandstand, flagpole, dancing kids and picnicking families. I put up a blog post with a few photos and a video. Enjoy your 4th of July and the rest of the summer.

I am bragging that I get to go home this week (Oklahoma) to spend some downtime and some time with family. Plus, I am thankful for the new online friends I have made which have taught me about blogging and coding – without them, my blog would still be stale.

BTW, I love this idea and may borrow it for the 4th on both of my blogs. I was at a total loss at what to say on the 4th am thinking I will do a take on your idea – hope you don’t mind….

Nicole, cheers to you, your family and friends. And of course you may use this idea. I borrowed it from a local professional women’s group.
