Come and share some good news

By Small Biz Survival

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing. I started this so you can introduce yourself, share some good news, or congratulate a friend.

The basket is open all weekend, from June 18 – 20, 2010.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, tweet me, or comment on Facebook. You tell something great about your week, or you give applause to someone who did good stuff this week. Or you celebrate something wonderful that you tried that failed.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

    Agreed with MissDazey!

And I’m thankful today for my wife. We are breaking away tonight for a one-night getaway. Not our anniversary (21 years this summer) but we may not be able to on that day. Gotta take advantage of the windows when they happen!

“Once upon a time, a store owner of a small yarn shop posted a simple tweet on Twitter. The store owner suggested to her customers they attend a summer concert series and bring along their current project to work on while enjoying the free music. In an office not too far away, an enthusiastic tourism professional read the tweet and rejoiced, for the clever store owner had (in only 140 characters) promoted a community event, the city, the store and all in a manner that was relevant to the store owner’s audience. And thus an entry on the Brag Basket was born.”

That little story was sent to me by Meilee Anderson of SeattleSouthside.com. She also said, “In the spirit of disclosure, I do not work for the store but do work with the store. I work with all of the retailers, attractions, hotels, restaurants and transportation providers in our area to promote our destination. Today I was so proud of this retailer, I felt compelled to contribute to the Brag Basket. If you’d like more information on the little yarn shop that could, visit http://www.renaissanceyarns.com/. And I’ll add that I don’t even know how to knit but this store owner makes me want to learn! By hook or crook she’s got me crocheting again. Haven’t done that in years!”

Hey Becky – thanks for the invite to toot my horn about a success story this week. I’m fairly new to blogging, but just returned from a fam to Anguilla. I was totally blown away by that island. Wrote a blog, and the Anguillan tourist board in Canada was thrilled. They’ve invited me to submit it to a Canadian-wide contest for travel agents who blog. Pretty cool.

Since last Friday: Andrew married his lovely bride, Allie; we moved them to Chicago where they live a block from the John Hancock Bldg.; Hope made her first sales as an Avon Lady; Jon taught his second week of an on-line class; we finished packing to move Sharehouse to a new warehouse; and life got back to some form of normal. The Swansons end this week with joy and peace and anticipation of great things ahead.
