It’s Friday, and that means the Brag Basket is open for the weekend.
This is where you can share your projects and accomplishments. You can also cheer for other people, give shout outs, congratulate, and even give someone a well-deserved pat on the back.
If you’ve never been the Brag Basket before, I’m extending a special invitation to you. Come on, share!
The Brag Basket is open for everyone, whether from a small town, a big city, or anywhere in the world. (But it’s true that I love small town brags!)
Will you put something in the Brag Basket this week? You can brag on a friend, your own project, yourself, others, anything! Make it personal, and not just an ad. You don’t need special permission, and you don’t have to be from a small town. Just leave a comment right here. There’s no deadline, so you can brag anytime during the weekend, and I’ll open a fresh Brag Basket each Friday.

This one came in by email:
I’d like to brag about Prescott, Kansas. We have a population of less than 300 yet we have two beautiful churches, a city library, a nursing home that is the only one in the county and a food pantry that serves over 100 people a month. We had 40 children in Bible School so you know we have lots of kids. We love our town of Prescott, Kansas. We are just one hour south of Overland Park and a great small town to live in.

Yay, Mary Beth, and a big round of applause for Prescott, Kansas! Sounds like a terrific little town with lots going for it.

hi Becky, I just found your blog this week. I’d like to brag on the people of East Nashville who are using technology to foster a neighborly spirit and turn around a formerly depressed neighborhood. Through blogs, a very active Google Group, mixers, and more, they are making connections and creating a strong community.
Next weekend is the Tomato Art Fest, a huge street festival celebrating all things tomato. If you’re anywhere near the area, come check us out!

I want to brag about Alva’s “Picture My Weekend” event, which starts this evening with a photography show (60 photographers, 150+ photos) and continues tomorrow with a day-long series of workshops, concluding with an evening slide show of pics taken by workshop participants during the day. It’s a fantastic event – due to the spirit of enthusiasm and cooperation of a whole bunch of folks!! It could be the nucleus of a “First Friday” or some-such event, if Alva wants to move in that direction.
Becky McCray says
Luke, welcome! How could we resist a Tomato Fest?? Love it! Thanks for bragging!
Dr. Murrow, congratulations to you and the whole group working on Picture My Weekend. It’s a great event, and I’m looking forward to it tonight!

Bragging in advance – next Tuesday marks 20 years of marriage. Heather is an amazing woman, and God has blessed us to stay together this long! We have certainly caused each other much pain – and much joy too. Life is tough, but it’s a blessing to be able to share it intimately and in a long-term way with another.
Becky McCray says
Paul, what a fabulous brag! Congratulations to you and Heather!

I’d like to brag about the Midwest Rural Assembly. There a ton of volunteers who are organizing an event to discuss the issues & policies confronting Rural America. If you want to learn more, check out their website — http://www.midwestruralassembly.org/. They can also be found on Facebook (Midwest Rural Assembly) and Twitter (Midwest_Rural).
If you want to learn more, check out this free webinar by the Daily Yonder’s Bill Bishop — https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/625103282. It’s coming up next Monday, so you’ll have to register quick.

Mike, that sounds like a terrific event! I’m going to have to watch for next year, but I’m definitely interested! Thanks for sharing it.

We have managed to make it to our 10th year in business when all of the bankers refused to lend to us because they were sure we would be out of business (and bucks) within 3 years of opening if we ever got open.
Becky McCray says
That’s what we like to hear! You show ’em!! Congratulations.
Lornadahl says
Wow, congrats to everyone!
Tomato Art Fest sounds fab and fun. And I can smell tomatoes from the kitchen!
Paul & Heather, may you have 20 more years twogether!

I usually mention my town or my favorite non-profit organization in this space, but today I want to mention that I just celebrated my two-month anniversary at my new job. I’m pleased with how things are progressing at Amaizing Energy, where I am working as a lab manager.
Amaizing Energy is a dry mill ethanol plant in Denison, Iowa. Amaizing has truly changed the game in our local region. I would love to hear impressions from other people about economic changes in their communities resulting from the ethanol industry.
Becky McCray says
Lornadahl, thanks for stopping in and cheering! Always great to see you. :)
Shannon, congratulations on your new job! I think that I would LOVE to have a guest post from you on this topic. We need to kick off this discussion.

Thanks for the congrats, Becky.
I thought it only fair (and, although I am far from Buddhist, it is also good kharma) to brag about someone else, too. My adopted home town of Dunlap is host to one of the finest livestock auction barns in the U.S.A. and they are celebrating their 59th year in business next week. So if you happen to be traveling across the middle of the country and you’re not in a plane, stop in for some BBQ!
