Brag Basket and birthday wishes

By Small Biz Survival

It’s Friday, and that means the Brag Basket is open for the weekend.

Plus, it’s Jon Swanson’s birthday. If you know him, you might go take a look at his birthday post.

When you come back, share your projects and accomplishments. You can also cheer for other people, give shout outs, congratulate, and even give someone a well-deserved pat on the back.

Think that bragging is a bad thing? Read how Tony explains the Brag Basket.

The Brag Basket is open for everyone, whether from a small town, a big city, or anywhere in the world. (But it’s true that I love small town brags!)

Will you put something in the Brag Basket this week? You can brag on a friend, your own project, yourself, others, anything! Make it personal, and not just an ad. You don’t need special permission, and you don’t have to be from a small town. Just leave a comment right here. There’s no deadline, so you can brag anytime during the weekend, and I’ll open a fresh Brag Basket each Friday.

because of social, I have friends. Because of media, they are all over the world. Because of friendship, I have met many face-to-face.

    Including Becky.

Happy birthday, Jon! Great wishlist. :)

For this week, I’m grateful to be reminded of the meetings to be held as soon as I recover from my injury. There’s the 1.) brainstorming for a product launch; 2.) business tie-up; 3.) event sponsorship. I’m so eager to get back on my feet, in more ways than one.

This brag on Jon came in via Twitter, from @ourspaceftwayne:
“In his younger years, @jnswanson was an amazing undergraduate advisor.”
    Happy birthday, Jon.

Lornadahl, good for you in keeping such a positive focus on the future! I hope you will be back on your feet quickly. Hang in there!

Anyone who creates a new business by renovating historic building that have sat vacant for almost 30 years deserves a brag on. That’s exactly when Joe Kolbach renovated the former SD School for the Blind in Gary, SD (pop. 250) and opened the Buffalo Ridge Resort and Business Center. They celebrated their grand opening last weekend. (http://www.experiencegarysd.com/buffalo-ridge-resort.cfm)

Happy birthday, Jon! I wholeheartedly agree with your comments! Because my brag today involves both social media and Becky.

This past few weeks, I had to embrace my physical challenges — once and for all. Although I will continue with physical therapy, I now realize this is likely my new normal. Although it requires that I scale back the next leg of my entrepreneurial journey, this mile marker would not have been reached had it not been for the helpful and inspiring people (like Becky) I met via Twitter (and in-person)!

I think I would have just thrown in the towel due to my chronic pain condition, and the havoc it causes regarding maintaining a consistent work schedule. BUT — I didn’t lose hope! On “pain-level-10” days, I would dive into the camaraderie, information and inspirations on Twitter!

Once there, I would converse and discover tidbits to add to my own notes regarding {creative} business helps and ideas to share and incorporate into the collaborative work I have been doing locally and online!

In that process … I found my niche and I continue to meet some fabulous folks! ;-)

Michelle, thanks so much for bragging on Corrine! Amazing how one good turn leads to another. :)

Stargardener, I’m so glad you shared your story. You’ve made so much of your social media connections, and you make a difference to so many people. Thank you.

I was deeply honored this week when Becky McCray suggested I consider participating in a small biz panel. ME? What an honor for her to even consider recommending me. I just look forward to the day we can actually meet! Oh, and we expanded our store up to the second floor and managed to pull of a huge success. Did in one weekend what it took us all July ’08 to achieve! Recession? To me, it is a suggestion that retailers raise their A Game – great customer service, great products, great prices.
