There is a reason for the Brag Basket

brag basketEach week, I open the Brag Basket. Obviously, it’s designed as a fun place for you to share your projects and accomplishments. But you can also cheer for other people, give shout outs, congratulate, and even give someone a well-deserved pat on the back.

The Brag Basket is open for everyone, whether from a small town, a big city, or anywhere in the world. (But it’s true that I love small town brags!)

Will you put something in the Brag Basket this week? You can brag on a friend, your own project, yourself, others, anything! You don’t need special permission, and you don’t have to be from a small town. Just leave a comment right here. There’s no deadline, so you can brag anytime during the weekend, and I’ll open a fresh Brag Basket each Friday.

NOTE: Once again I have a Friday full of meetings, so cheer for each other, OK? Thanks!

  1. Small items for some but big for me:
    1) Got a great new logo for my site from @matthewktabor on Twitter. Thanks Matt!!!
    2) Got a photo included in the digital mapping service Schmap
    3) Got my blog included at photography.alltop.com

Congratulations to all the other commenters on their accomplishments this week!

  2. I increased my Twitter followers by 200% in 36 hours by using Guy Kawasaki’s tips. I also created a small logo for our business which is featured on the blog (in my name above). And I find I’m clicking on Alltop more and more… ;-)

  3. I want to brag on the Cox Ohio journalists at the Dayton Daily News, the Springfield (OH) News-Sun and other Cox Ohio journalists who drove to Dayton to attend a series of workshops I just finished teaching, about blogging and social media.

They were interested, engaged, certainly skeptical sometimes but overall open to new ideas and fresh perspectives.

They blog like crazy and are starting to poke around in Twitter, Flickr, etc.

We NEED news organizations and the skills they bring to tell us stories and analyze our world, so I’m thrilled to report that even as print-based news is struggling, forward-thinking journalists are getting out there into Web 2.0 and kicking some tail. I love ’em for it!

  4. Becky, congrats on the Alltop deal! Really awesome work there.

Congrats to everyone this week on all the items you’ve worked hard on and bringing to fruition.

I’d like to drop a line about an upcoming event in Minneapolis/St. Paul. The 10th Social Media Breakfast (#SMBMSP) will be held on December 19th from 8am to 10am. Details can be found at http://smbmsp10.eventbrite.com. I hope anyone from the MSP area can attend.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  5. I haven’t bragged about anything for a long time – so I just wanted to say Hello.

But we should all brag that despite the seemingly bad news – people still have lots of stuff to brag about.

  6. I’d like to extend kudos to my friend from college, Emily Lonigro, who moved from Chicago to NYC and recently moved back to Chicago and is continuing to do great work across a number of new and traditional media.

If you need a logo or a complete brand design, a snazzy website, or other physical things that represent your company — especially if you’re in Chicago — you need to check her out:

    Way to go, Em!

  7. Going into the Thanksgiving weekend, I was tapped to head the digital efforts on Ford’s crisis communications team. In just 5 short days, over the holiday weekend, a multi-departmental team and supporting agencies put together The Ford Story at http://thefordstory.com.

In doing so, we hoped to humanize the company and pull away from the other U.S. automakers with our own authentic story.

And then on Friday, the site was covered in the Wall Street Journal – http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122843938180981627.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

  8. All I can say is, WOW! Congrats to everyone, and thank you for sharing. And I want to repeat what Marco said above: “despite the seemingly bad news – people still have lots of stuff to brag about.”

  9. Becky, great idea for the new Alltop category! That’s cool that they accepted it so fast. I’ve been super impressed with Guy and everyone that works on the Alltop project.
