What else you can put in the Brag Basket

By Small Biz Survival

brag basketEach Friday, I open the Brag Basket. Obviously, it’s designed as a fun place for you to brag on your projects and accomplishments. But you can also cheer for other people, give shout outs, congratulate, and even give someone a well-deserved pat on the back.

The Brag Basket is open for everyone, whether from a small town, a big city, or anywhere in the world. (But it’s true that I love small town brags!)

Last week, we had a bunch of fun Halloween brags:

  • Ryan of Neighborsville bragged on their beta launch.
  • Trevor of PokerPlasm was proud of the Twitter Poker Tour.
  • Laura of HG Marketing cheered for the Phillies!
  • Troy gave a shout out to Jeff Wilson.
  • Connie of Every Dot Connects gave a pat on the back to Jackie and Ben for SWOMFest.
  • Jon of Levite Chronicles (and here) Tweeted about the AOC2 book and authors.
  • Eric of Get Geek Strong shared his pride in StopForwarding.us. (Hey! I met Eric at OpenBeta! Woohoo!)
  • Lee (A Geeky Momma!) bragged on the K12Online Conference.

Huzzah! Congrats to everyone.

NOTE: I’ll be away from the keyboard most of Friday, but I will respond when I get back. In the meantime, cheer for each other.

Will you put something in the Brag Basket this week? You can brag on a friend, your own project, yourself, others, anything! You don’t need special permission, and you don’t have to be from a small town. Just leave a comment right here. There’s no deadline, so you can brag anytime during the weekend, and I’ll open a fresh Brag Basket each Friday.

I’m going to brag on my friend Jane (s13cybergal or http://cybergalsblog.blogspot.com)

Jane is an amazing woman and wonderful friend. She’s funny, incredibly opinionated, crazy for life and one of the most faithful friends of my acquaintance. But that’s just the first layer, and as the layers peel off, Jane becomes even more amazing.

My friend Jane is a walking Horatio Alger story. She has overcome an abusive upbringing, physical disability (she’s legally blind) and a whole host of other stuff to become who she is today. Her amazing capacity to continue on, in the face of adversity and overwhelming odds, is an example to anyone who knows her.

Even more fun, Jane has pushed past her physical disabilities and perceived limitations to become her church’s webmaster (and she’s doing a *fine* job thank you!) as well as the person who does their weekly bulletins and converts/edits all their audio for posting on the web.

Jane will give all the glory to God for what He has accomplished in her, and rightfully so. But as someone that has known Jane for years, and who has worked in the church and as a manager, I also know that unlike in so many cases, God had a piece of clay that was willing to be used, to be challenged, and to grow.

Jane is a great gal, and if you don’t read her blog or follow her on twitter – maybe you should :)

My office is not quite so empty. Got a conference room table – nice one. Break room table and a dry erase board. http://allaboutfocus.com is slowly growing every day.

I’m a first time Brag Basket visitor and a long time bragger :)

I’d like to brag about the TechBurgh.com blog. My pet project.
It broke the sub 300,000 tank on Alexa today.

How about just being darned proud of my country for proving that Democracy in action can be inspiring? Not to mention that I turned a year older–that’s an accomplishment, right? (grin)

What a cool idea! I’d like to brag for all my Twitter friends who are doing NaNoWriMo — @warzabidul, @Tojosan, @ColleenCoplick, @creativelywrite, @CreativeSage, @MamaTina, and anyone else I’ve missed. Just the act of writing is brave and wonderful, and I give them a round of applause!

I’m restarting a personal web project that I abandoned, for a number of reasons, a couple of months ago. Mostly, I got too busy to put any time into it. Well, I’m still too busy, but stepping away from it for a while gave me new insight and reaffirmed my belief that the idea is sound, and all it needs is great execution. So this time, instead of going it alone, I’m enlisting the help of other designers and developers to give this idea wings.

Without giving too much away, it will open more of the Internet to your children, without the worries commonly associated with allowing your children online (predators, inappropriate messages/visuals, etc.) And for those of you with kids who have Webkinz/Millsville/Barbie.com accounts: no, it’s not another one of those. :-)

    Cheers!
    Bob

Wow, Bob! That sounds like an exciting project, and I applaud your approach to bringing in others to help make it a reality! All the best for a big success!
