Brag Basket makes promotion fun

By Small Biz Survival

brag basketEachFriday, I open the brag basket as a fun place to give someone a pat onthe back, brag, or promote yourself and your projects.

Last week, I bragged on a new client, Marc announced Ask Without Fear is getting some great publicity, ethnicomm shared some kindness, Sheila from Family Travelogue bragged up Aruni for her SXSW panel and Sheila’s own selection for a cool project, ATX Wintergaurd proudly talked about their summer accomplishments, Michelle of BatchBlue bragged on her team’s site redesign, Jen of JenX67 said nice things about Debbie and me, Todd of The Broad Brush and @JavaSTL held a great local Tweetup, Scott earned some awesome press coverage, Paul creatively announced his availability, Pizza For a Dream bragged on Jeff, and we also had Mark of Train for Humanity, Marco of Invoice Factoring Blog and Aruni of Entremusings stop in to cheer.

Willyou put something in the Brag Basket this week? You can brag on afriend, your own project, yourself, others, anything! You don’t needspecial permission. Just leave a comment right here. There’s no deadline, so you can brag anytime during the weekend, andI’ll open a fresh Brag Basket each Friday.

After spending the last 10 months looking for a job that fit myself, my values and my skill set (also to leave the self-employment go, go, go lifestyle), I’ve accomplished my goal! Not only do I have a shiny new job, it’s within the small business world that revolves around furthering our future!

As of Monday, I became the Interface and New Media Manager for America’s Best Companies. The company is a national-level small business association, one of a kind. The goal is to keep small businesses from going under and work us towards lobbying in Washington for SB rights. We offer huge discounts and packages as part of membership. I’m really proud of the company that I work for, which makes doing my job so much easier.

I get to go out and talk to people, find out what you all need for small business and try to find ways to make that happen. The more people enrolled in the initiative to do this the easier it’ll be and the better for small business in the US.

Thanks for having a place to brag!!

In the last week or two, I’ve gotten very involved with helping the Rails team improve their documentation – http://guides.rails.info/ is one of the first fruits. In my little corner of the development universe, this is a Big Deal, and it looks likely to lead to more business opportunities — which, these days, is a very good thing.

At Becky’s suggestions via twitter, I thought I would stop by and introduce myself.

My name is Tracy Collins and I provide confidential virtual assistance to do-it- yourselfers who realize they can’t do it themselves and are ready to ask for help.

Great information here and I look forward to continuing to read more.

I want to brag about all the caring, compassionate people who use social media. Earlier this week, I posted about a sad thing happening to a friend serving Iraq – she saved a puppy months ago and the puppy was on his way to the airport to be rescued by Baghdad Pups, when he was seized by higher-ups in the military.

I asked for help to get attention for his plight, and SO many people have jumped in. The post actually reached the top of Digg on Tuesday: http://digg.com/political_opinion/US_Military_threatens_to_kill_pet_of_deployed_US_Soldier

People are calling their senators and the news media, telling their friends, twittering about it, and donating to Baghdad Pups. Over 6000 people have signed petitions for Ratchet.

It’s just amazing how caring people can be. Such amazing compassion and willingness to help others.

Hi Becky – first, I need to congratulate everyone above on their tremendous success this week! Well done. :)

For me, this week, Train for Humanity broke the $1000 dollar mark for donor support. Which is really inspiring. All MONIES raised through our training efforts are going to the Darfur Peace & Development Organization. We hope to help them rebuild their Shegegkaro School which was recently bombed and destroyed (and six children killed):

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend! And thank you, Becky.

Hi Becky – this brag basket idea is a great one. Thanks for mentioning me and my blog. I’d like to brag on my County Tax Collector (yes I did type that) and I just did a post about it http://www.entrepremusings.com/index.php/2008/10/11/making-things-convenient/ because they made my life a little easier.

Following up to Marti, I’d like to brag here again about my wife meeting her 10% weight loss goal. She’s been working hard at it, both by watching what she eats and getting more exercise. She’s been pushing me that direction as well, and over the last two weeks I’ve lost over 4lbs. i’ve been slowly but surely losing extra weight as well.

BTW, I also want to brag on the Wii Fit. if you have a hard time getting interested in exercise, this little gem might be for you. Fun games that distract you from the fact you are exercising. :)

I’m bragging on a very successful blogger – Jack Schultz. I think he knows more about small town economies than anyone else, because he spends more time out in the field than anyone! For FOUR YEARS he’s been writing about his travels at http://boomtownusa.blogspot.com/

Congratulations on four terrific years of sharing, Jack!
